Navy Federal Credit Union serves Department of Defense members and their families with specialized loans, savings, checking and other services.
Chartered in 1947, Navy Federal Credit Union is the world's largest credit union. It all began in 1933 when seven civilian Navy members started a self-help group to aid each other with emergency loans.
Membership in Navy Federal Credit Union
Membership in the credit union is extended to all Department of Defense members (active or not) including Air Force, Marine Corps, Army and Coast Guard members, along with their immediate families.
Loans
This credit union continues to specialize in helping its members out through loans, such as an overdraft line of credit. Home loans include mortgages, refinancing and equity loans. Other common loans include auto, motorcycle, boat, vacation and holiday spending loans.
Savings and checking
High yield savings accounts include several money market account choices, multiple CD options and IRAs. This bank also offers ESAs (education savings accounts). Deposit insurance
Navy Federal Credit Union is a member of the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). The temporary increase in NCUA coverage from $100,000 to $250,000 per depositor was made permanent in July 2010. All eligible deposits are NCUA-insured up to at least $250,000 per depositor. Joint accounts are NCUA-insured up to at least $250,000 per account holder.
