Fort Knox Federal Credit Union Review

In 1950, Fort Knox Federal Credit Union, a federally chartered financial institution, opened with ten members. Originally planned for civilian employees at Fort Knox, the credit union expanded in 1960 to allow military service personnel and other consumers to join.

Headquartered in Radcliff, Kentucky, Fort Knox Federal Credit Union holds assets of $891 million in 2010 and is a BBB Accredited Business with an A+ rating. After more than sixty years in business, the credit union has expanded into multiple branches in Kentucky and offers online banking services.

Who is eligible to join

This non-profit credit union provides full financial products and services to its members. To be eligible to join, individuals must work at Fort Knox, work for a Select Employer group, or live, work, worship, attend school or regularly do business in the Kentucky counties of Boyle, Breckonridge, Grayson, Hart, LaRue, Meade, Nelson or Taylor. Relatives are also eligible for membership and some members may also qualify if they join the American Consumer Council.

Financial products

Fort Knox Federal Credit Union offers a full array of accounts for its members, including a bank savings account. Members can choose to save in a money market account or open a certificate of deposit (CD). The credit union also has an IRA account. Members can open a checking account and then use online banking to pay their bills.

Financial services

Members can bank at their local credit union branch, or use telephone banking and online banking to transfer funds and check balances. The credit union also offers free financial education videos, loans and lines of credit for members.

Deposit insurance

Fort Knox Federal Credit Union is a member bank of the National Credit Union Administration. All funds deposited with the Fort Knox Federal Credit Union are fully insured to the maximum limit of $250,000 per depositor by the NCUSIF (National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund) which is backed by the federal government. Joint accounts are insured up to at least $250,000 per account holder.
