Easthampton Savings Bank Review
Easthampton Savings Bank offers all the advantages of a small, home town bank. However, its products and services are very much of the 21st century, and compete well with those provided by many of the nation's largest financial institutions.
Easthampton Savings Bank of Easthampton, Mass., is a shining example of the benefits of steady, conservative growth. It was founded in 1869, but waited 30 years before moving into its own premises, and another 19 years before it bought the property it was renting. In 1973, more than a century after it opened its first customer's account, it opened its first branch office, in Southampton.
Growth since then has been comparatively rapid, and, by December 2008, the bank had total assets of $780.6 million, and employed 149 staff in eight full service offices.
It was established during the period of prosperity immediately after the Civil War. Back then, the good people of Easthampton had no local deposit facilities, and the bank was formed in response to the needs of the local community. Today, Easthampton Savings Bank continues to respond to the needs of the communities it serves, both in the provision of banking services, and in the contributions that its employees make as volunteers for local causes.
Checking, savings and money market account options
The bank has no fewer than five kinds of checking account:
- Get Real Checking account -- earn cash for using the account's debit card
- Premier Checking account -- earn interest on balances
- Basic Checking account -- no minimum balance and no monthly fees
- NOW Checking account -- another interest bearing account
- Advantage Checking account -- higher minimum balance required, but pays interest and offers many free services
There are three types of savings account, including the Club Account, which is designed for vacation and Christmas savings. There are also two money market accounts, and two forms of CD, one of which is an unusual product called "The 7-Day CD". As its name implies, this allows money to be deposited or withdrawn (or left to roll over) every seven days.
Easthampton Savings Bank has full online and telephone banking services. Eligible deposits are protected by FDIC insurance, subject to current requirements.
